First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco will Host New Music for Guitars and Electronics

Composer Daniel Meyer-O’Keeffe will be presenting the West Coast premiere of his new work Stare Prone. This is a full-evening performance/installation scored for three guitarists, four sources of sampled guitar tracks, and live electronics. Presumably, Meyer-O’Keeffe will be one of the guitarists and will manage the electronic gear. The other two guitarists will be Giacomo Fiore, founder of the Tangents Contemporary Guitar series and currently teaching Music History and Literature at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Travis Andrews, best known as co-founder, with percussionist Andrew Meyerson, of The Living Earth Show.

The installation for Stare Prone is a semi-translucent structure housing the performers, built specifically for the composition and designed in collaboration with painter/sculptor Eloise Hess. The space containing this structure will be surrounded by many loudspeakers. As a result the audience will be immersed in both a visual landscape and the soundscape created by the speakers.

Stare Prone will be given a single performance beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 25. The venue will be the Chapel of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco, a relatively modest space that may be cleared to enable any configuration of performers and audience (not to mention speaker placement). All tickets will be $10 and will be sold only at the door.
