I found it interesting how little media attention yesterday's anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor received. By this morning all I had harvested were a few sentences and a photograph on the Web site for the San Francisco Chronicle. Of course Bush I was the one who once got the date of the attack wrong in a public address, which probably did not go down at all well with his fellow Veterans of the Second World War. I suppose this is one more sign of just how alien the very concept of history is to our current culture, even when history can tell us more about certain topics (think Afghanistan) than any current intelligence sources.
