Sandy Weill, former CEO of Citigroup, has spoken out in favor of Germany's efforts to bring hedge funds under global regulation. On the occasion of the Essen summit, Weill gave an interview to SPIEGEL that will appear in print on Monday; but Gabor Steingart and Frank Hornig have now reported on the content for SPIEGEL ONLINE. If Chancellor Merkel and her Finance Minister, Peer Steinbrück, needed a way to kick-start the discussion they wanted to have in Essen, then Weill has served them well. The only down-side to all this is that SPIEGEL seems to be the only news source giving this story any serious coverage!
