There has been a fair amount on BBC World Service Radio today about this being Desmond Tutu’s birthday and about how he has declared this to be the day of his retirement from public life. However, there has been little attention paid to some of the public figures, past and present, who share this birthday with him. Probably the most interesting historical figure is Leon Trotsky; and, in one of those amusing collisions of past and present, the day also happens to be the birthday of Vladimir Putin. Adding Peggy Noonan to the mix makes the occasion all the more amusing!
