Voices of Music Releases a New Video of K. 525 as Chamber Music with Continuo

Voices of Music has just uploaded to their YouTube channel a new video of the opening Allegro movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s K. 525 in G major:

This is his serenade best known as “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” (a little serenade), written for a quartet of two violins, viola, and cello with an optional part for double bass. Most of us are familiar with performances by a string orchestra; but, since the music was probably intended for a social affair, it was most likely originally given a one-to-a-part presentation. The performance is given by violinists Carla Moore and Isabelle Seula Lee, violist Liana Bérubé, and cellist Tanya Tomkins. There is no double bass, but Eric Zivian provides a continuo on fortepiano.

The recording was taken from a concert given this past July at the Valley of the Moon Music Festival. Held in Sonoma, this summer saw the festival’s second annual season. The Web page for the video also includes extensive and informative program notes by David Tayler, who continues to supervise the video capture and uploading of Voices of Music players in “live” performance settings.
